A Textbook for Ayurveda Counselors

Essential Guide to Ayurveda: A Textbook for Students & Counselors

My latest book Essential Guide to Ayurveda: A Textbook for Students & Ayurveda Counselors will be published in Summer 2020.

My husband and I have been in the business of running and teaching Ayurveda and its sister philosophies for over a decade now.

A lot of our students began to show interest in taking the board exam meant for Counselor.

I also noticed that there were so many books on Ayurveda, and, they were mostly meant for a newbie, or, were too technical. As a school director, I needed a textbook, a study guide that mapped to the curriculum, and touched on topics that the Counselors would need in their own practice. We needed something specific that talked covered the Ayurveda curriculum, their scope of practice, interviewing techniques, even time management.

Ayurvedic Counselors may use a variety of modalities for healing, such as:

  • Determine Prakrti and Vikrti (Original and current constitution)

  • Determine the state of Agni, Mala, and Ama (if applicable)

  • Determine an increase or decrease of sub doshas

  • Determine increase, decrease, and vitiation of the tissues

  • Determine the state of srotas

  • Ahāra (Diet plans suited to individual constitutions mostly for mild disorders)

  • Yoga for different doṣas (body types)

  • Prāṇāyama (breathing exercises)

  • Daily Routine Practices that bring balance

  • Seasonal Routine Practices that pacify doshas

  • Supporting mala (elimination of waste)

  • Limited Herbs and Herbal formulations to be taken internally

  • Meditation

  • Spiritual prayers

  • Suggest Agni balancing practices

  • Suggest Shamana (Pacification for doshas)

  • Suggest Brihmana (Tonifying practices)

With each passing year in my Āyurvedic practice, I become increasingly convinced that Āyurvedic practitioners are naturally in the business of teaching and educating their clients, students, family, friends, and community.

My students needed not only to know be subject matter expert, but know how to counsel and educate their clients.

So, I wrote the book, "Essential Guide to Ayurveda: A Textbook for Students and Counselors"

It should be out both as an ebook and a printed format by August 2020.
